Lemon Ginger Elixer

Did cold & flu season take anyone else out these last few months? Today I’m sharing with you my all time favorite way to give your immune system a boost. This lemon and ginger elixir really is the gift of life. Lemon and ginger are both well-known for their potential health benefits when consumed individually, and when combined, they can offer a variety of benefits for the body. Both lemon and ginger are high in antioxidants, which can help to support the immune system and protect the body from damage cause by free radicals.

This super tonic is an unbelievable digestive aid. Lemon has been shown to help stimulate the production of digestive juices while ginger can sooth even the most upset of stomach acids. Together, they can help relieve digestive discomfort, including bloating, gas and constipation. On top of all that Ginger has anti inflammatory properties, while lemon is high in vitamin C, which is also known to have anti-inflammatory effects. Give your metabolism the boost it needs and deserves and improve your over all health by sipping on this elixir regularly. Add it to mocktails, your favorite teas or sip straight.

Lemon Ginger Elixir:

1 cup peeled ginger, roughly chopped
1 lemon
16 cups water

Add your water to a large pot and bring to a simmer. Peel and roughly chop your ginger then add it to the pot. Let simmer until rich and fragrant, about 15 minutes. In the meantime, clean the exterior of your lemon then thinly slice and add it to the pot. Let simmer for another 15 minutes until liquid is reduced by about half. Strain using a nut bag or a sieve (I used a nut bag). Drink straight or add a shot to your mint tea, mocktail or drink straight with a tsp of Manuka honey. Sip and enjoy!
